Education in Russia:
Russian education system is counted amongst one of the most advanced education systems in the world. The country has a tradition of striving to provide quality education to its citizens. This goes on to show much higher education in the country is valued. Higher educational institutions in Russia have laid a greater emphasis on science and technology.

Post soviet era, many new private educational institutions have come up that have exclusively focused on providing quality education. The mass education system in the country is also among one of the best in the world with a phenomenal literacy rate of 98 percent, thus exceeding most Western European countries.
Higher education in the country is in the domain of both the public and non-public accredited higher educational institutions. Higher education in the country has been divided into basic higher education and postgraduate higher education. Competitive entry requirements at the Russian universities also ensure that only good students get admission into the institutions thereby ensuring quality in the education. Many Russian institutions also have programmes for public and professional needs.
After the breakup of the erstwhile Soviet Union, the Russian education system inherited much of its characteristics. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, spend on education witnessed tremendous decline and accordingly the quality of education became poor. Under these circumstances, the newly set up state and private institutions had huge responsibilities on their shoulders. With the passage of time, many private higher educational institutions have been set up whereas the state also has taken active interest in improving the quality of education.
Both public and private accredited higher educational institutions are providing higher education in the country. Basic higher education that lasts for four years leads to the first university degree. This degree is equivalent to B.Sc degree provided in the US or Western Europe. The postgraduate higher education has duration of 5 to 6 years or more. Students get Master's degree after the completion of two years. After completing Master's students can go for the doctoral programmes.
