Higher Education:

The emphasis of the Finnish government has been on developing a society that educates its citizens to unprecedented standards of education by developing a modern, internationally oriented higher education system. It is because of this that in 2005, Finnish Universities saw their degree programmes getting amended. The objective was to make these programmes internationally more compatible. The Finnish government, in order to achieve its aim of setting higher standards of education in the country, has poured in substantial amount of money into research and development.

Also, institutions of higher education in the country have state-of-the-art facilities and have proven expertise in many fields. The polytechnics and universities of applied sciences present here lay special emphasis on close cooperation with business, industry and services.


The universities and institutions of polytechnics present in the country have approximately 400 international study programmes that are being imparted in English. As per estimates, nearly 8400 foreign students from 40 different countries are pursuing different courses in Sweden .

Of these, nearly 4700 are pursuing higher education in various universities. These programmes offered at the Finnish universities are based on a joint European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The ECTS ensures that Finnish degrees have a global recognition.

Students have the option of choosing from a wide number of programmes on offer. Also, the quality assurance programme in the country has ensured that the standard of universities infrastructure, student services and teaching and research is high.


Admission season in Finland:

The universities present in the country generally have two semesters. These semesters have been divided into a. the autumn semester and, b. the spring semester. While the autumn semester generally runs from September till mid-December the spring semester stretches from mid-January to mid-May.

Students in order to get admission into Finnish Universities have to quality the matriculation examination at the end of the general upper secondary school. Universities of the country amend their admission  requirements according to the target number for degrees. All fields of study have a restricted entry.
